I am guessing you are referring to the hard disk inside of your old computer. If you are tossing it, open the case and remove the hard disk drive. Use a hammer and destroy the drive.

It truthfully sound like the cooler has lost contact so yeah, the disassembly, cleanng & reapplying thermal compound (I favor Arctic Silver) recurring is what's needed. As before recommended, blast out any dirt or clogging of the fan with compressed air first, yet i do not imagine dirt on my own ought to reason temps to skyrocket that prime. The LGA775 lock equipment seems flimsier than that is. maximum third-party coolers are take care of even as they're in position. For the fewest hassles i ought to bypass with a cooler layout that is rather reviewed (no longer inevitably intense priced). i have had an Arctic 7 Freezer professional operating for over a year hardship-loose. be conscious: Arctic Silver is conductive, so be careful now to not spill any extra onto your motherboard.

Dont worry about info on the CPU or memory. Only the hard drive will store your private information.
For practical purposes, reformatting the hard drive will remove all your private information. It is true that, say military secrets could be recovered from a hard drive that had been reformatted, but, from a practical standpoint, I doubt that anyone will go to that expense to discover your love letters to your old girl friend. For one thing, it will be out of sight..kind of like storing your wallet in your trunk. Could someone break the lock and break into your trunk and steal your wallet? Sure, but they are not likely to, because they are not going to know the wallet is there, unless they see you put it in there.

Windows Washer.
You can find other softwares in www.download.com that can wipes your harddrive clean.
Remember to choose the method that can overwrites (cleaning) 4 times as a minumum to prevent any traces of data to be ressurrected.
Sledge hammer or anything that can break a harddrive could work also but again you will decide what is the best option.

If you mean the case with all of those gadgets inside, just remove the hard drive and beat it to death with a sledge hammer.
