is rock music better now or was it better 12 or 13+ years back? if so why?

I think it's probably as good as it was back then! I certainly think its more diverse!

Rock was much better in the 60's and 70's because it was much more diverse. There was Psychedelic rock, folk rock, hard rock, heavy metal, pop, jazz rock. Basically something for everyone in those days.Throw in the "British Invasion" and soul music from Motown and all the great Doo Wop artists of the early 60's and it was a veritable smorgasbord of talent.

It was really good in the 80's, but I am finding that there several bands now that seam to be playing the same type of music that was popular then. Bands like AFI and HIM have songs out that could have been popular in the 80's. I think this type of music is coming back. Rap is slowly going out of style.

difficult to say...nowadays there are a lot more bands to choose from, theres lots of diversity in music now than there was...when the 60s generation listened to music. there were big names back then...hendrix, beatles, zeppelin...
but now...is it possible to get 50 people off the street and find that they all have the same music tastes? almost impossible...not saying that it was possible 30 years ago, but the tastes would've been more similar.
however bands like the chili peppers, foo fighters, the mars volta, the trews, are really tearing up the charts.

Nothing and no one will ever beat the great rock bands of the 70's. Queen, Yes, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin...
I can't think of much that came out of the 90's and only a few bands now that will stand the test of time like the classics.

better back then. these days its all about rap and all that and if there are rock fans they will never make a huge movement like all of the different metal movements. definetly better back then

I want to say better back then, but there are several groups today that I really love. I guess it would be fair of me to say that i think there was a greater amount of really good performers then compared to now.
