Technology in place today, and for the immediate future includes; collision avoidance systems, vehicle speed limiting to posted speed limits automatically, and for projected NEAR future; driverless sections of U.S. highways( imbedded sensors keep vehicles within their lane, at posted speed, without driver input). Well this is BIG BROTHER at his best! Kinda scary, isnt it? Also valve-less engines, these will utilize electric solonoids instead of valves. And still yet even today we have 'drive by wire. steering(this is no mechanical connection between the steering wheel, and the steering tires)

i think things like Merc. Benz's PreSafe program...this will centanlly shape MB's future, and could influence GM, Ford & Toyota...though they defnelty need to focus less on the gimick side and more on saving lives

other breakthrough will be fuel saving devices, possibly a new seat belt design, better ESP programs, lightweight and cheaper to produce aluminium...plus more iDrive style programs, thouhg much better developed...something like touch screens and vocal communictaions

How about a car that will not let an idiot drive it?? If you need a car that parks itself you do not belong behind the wheel of anything.
