I would say that there are some classic novels that are more "complex" than many written today, but I'm not sure it's their "complexity" that makes them great books.

I think that in all arts, there are what we can call "landmark" works - literature, music, etc. Books in this category often explained something about the human condition or man's psychology, in a way that had never been done before. They stand out as "timeless" works.

Yes...some of the older books are deeper and more complexed than the " For Dummies " books of today. Reason, people back then were more involved in an intellectual sense than now and writers strived to stimulate that sense rather than the " See Spot Run " level that most (not all) writers do in this era.

Before TV & movies.. and that is now over 100 years for the cinema.. people read for entertainment.. or once in a while went to see a play.. A good book still is better than the movie taken from it.. so much more descriptive.. and reaches deep within us..

i think so i also think it was the type of language they spoke at that time it was more proper
