Vista won't work properly with the business network we use, so I have to reinstall XP Pro. However, the XP startup CD won't recognize the hard drive, even after reformatting it from the Vista startup disk.

The data on the hard drive has already been backed up. I don't care if I have to completely erase it.

You most likely won't be able to revert to an "earlier" version of Windows. I had the same issues with Windows XP Media Edition and XP Home.

XP media edition wouldn't even let XP Home start up to the point that I could use the "format" option.

The only thing I can think of is if you have a floppy drive, go to http://www.download.com and get a little program called Killdisk. Copy it to a floppy disk, insert it in the drive, and reboot your PC.

NOTE: It will completely erase your hard drive and you will lose everything on the drive, but you should be able to install XP Pro once you do it.

A lousy option, but sometimes it's the only way.

Hope this helps.

You will need to backup the data before formating the harddrive.

You can't just uninstall a Windows Vista nor can you do it with Windows XP.

Operation System never go back by uninstalling and never will.

That version of XP probably got invalidated when Vista was installed over it.

Unfortunately all versions of XP invalidate the XP key they are installed over. Tough luck, blame M$.
