I always salute magpies. I was told when I was a kid it was supposed to counteract the 'bad luck' of seeing one, and now I just can't stop it.

If I believed in superstitions I would have been in trouble a long time ago, I work in construction and walk under ladders several times a day. But my Mom was extremely superstitious. One of them was when there is a ring around the sun, something bad is going to happen. About 15 years ago my husband and I were backpacking, we were on top of a mountain when a storm started moving in, there was a ring around the sun. I had a bad feeling in my gut. Our dog was scared to death of storms so we had to get her off the mountain. On our way down the mountain a black cat ran in front of the truck. When we got home I tried to call my Mom to let her know we got home safe, the phone was busy (for hours). Exhausted I tried to sleep, but couldn't. At 7am the next morning when I got ahold of my sister I found out my Mom was in a coma in the hospital, she had swallowed a chicken bone the night before. Whenever there's a ring around the sun, it still makes me nervous!

im not superstitious at all, but the odd thing is ever since a friday the 13th like 2yrs ago i accidently knocked my salt shaker over, and had bad luck since. its so freaky i dont even believe in that nonsense. but i do not say the word macbeth i never have and never will! i saw the show about like these weird mysteries and its like a kiddish show, but it was talking about the saying macbeth during the play. and it told that once some1 said the word during the REAL performance, the cover of the sharp end of of of theose thin swords came of and this guy was supposed to die from the covered swrod, but they really died cuz the thing came off. so i wont ever say that word. otherwise no superstitions.

I never walk under a ladder in the street
I like that one where if you stand at the top of the stairs alone backwards holding a mirror a spirit will throw you down them
I think its the ultimate superstition test, I have never tried it, how many would?

I have never heard this before. Why is it bad luck to put new shoes on the table? My grandma always told me not to sweep around myself or I would never get married. You shouldn't go in one door and out another.

I still throw salt over my left shoulder - even in public - even though I doubt the devil is hovering about waiting for people to spill salt.
Not sure if it's a superstition, but I don't like to look in mirrors in the dark.
I've heard many many wierd ones, and I cannot rememebr any right now - sigh.

I don't have any of my own, at least that I am conscious of, but Formula 1 driver David Coulthard used to wear the underwear he wore when he was 14 on race day. Of course, that probably explains his record the past few years

I think you win! I don't know many odd ones. There's outrageous things like black cats are omens of death and opening an umbrella is bad luck as is breaking a mirror or walking under a ladder or stepping on a crack. None are very rational. Numbers always crack me up 13, 666, 7... I just have a hard time believing that numbers hold any power at all.
