Why should it be called "white history month" when the study of the history of this great country includes people from all sorts of ethnic backgrounds. African slaves helped build this country long before Washington was born. And Lincoln did his part in freeing those slaves and forming a Union. This is a month to give credit where credit is due; whether you're black or white... and that's a no brainer!

February is black history month because it only has 28 days, except on leap years. That is 27.5 days more than black history month deserves.

It also coincides with the month that most retailers have recouped their losses from Kwanzaa and Black Shoplifting month.

As far as the Presidents day celebration goes, that is just an excuse for union thugs in public sector employment to take 2 days off that the rest of us pay for.

What we now call Black History Month was originated in 1926 by Carter Godwin Woodson as ***** History Week. The month of February was selected in deference to Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln who were both born in that month.

It is a time to rejoice the many achievements of the blacks. I will make a list.

In reality why are the white men who freed and gave them rights not honored by the blacks? Instead they try to give the credit to a black man that in all reality had little or no impact on the unfortunate out come.

Somewhere someone is gonna say all year is white history which is incorrect. I learned about plenty of black people throughout the year......no need for a month when they get a year just like everyone else :)

It is Black History Month because Black people had to suffer for centuries because of white people, so don't you think it is fair?

I think, in order to 'celebrate' blacks this month, is to report 100% of their violent crimes with photo's on every news station. I'm sure this isn't allowed since the 5 o'clock news would last until 10.

first of all I dont think any particular race should have a "month". I'm sick of all the labeling. why not have an American month where we celebrate great people in this country no matter what race they are.

It's the shortest month of the year. Not that I agree with calling the shortest month of the year "Black History Month".
