I think you're probably asking about the recent headline news articles about increased danger of an imminent big earthquake off western Canada.
According to news accounts, scientists at the Pacific Geoscience Centre have observed that small tremors are occurring about every 14 months at the offshore plate boundary, adding stress to the locked part of the plate boundary and bringing it closer to triggering a major earthquake.
The most recent cluster of tremors started up on Jan 26, causing this news article on Sat. feb 3: Seismologists warned that a "catastrophic" earthquake could strike the southwestern coast of British Columbia soon, Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper reported. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070203/sc_afp/canadaquake_070203205115
But, by sunday feb 4-Seismologists at the Pacific Geoscience Centre in Sidney, B.C. said the latest episode of subterranean tremors on Vancouver Island than began Jan. 26 has ended about a week earlier than usual. ...heightened risk...weakened.http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20070204/quake_risk_070204/20070204
Another round of tremors may start up around April 2008 if the pattern holds true.

Im not sure what your feeling, according to usgs the only earthquakes near Vancouver Island were:
1.9 magnitude 1/29/07 5:44am 39km N of Saanich
Other sizeable earthquakes in the area:
3.2 magnitude 1/26/07 1:23am 56km WNW of Seattle,WA
Your island rides along on tectonic plates that ride on molten lava, and float around, even though sizeable movement takes millions and millions of years. You are in a location known as the "Ring Of Fire" where the Pacific Plate is crashing into the North American plate. Thus all the rigid mountains and islands, volcanoes and earthquakes. Numerous swarms of earthquakes in a general area usually signify that the plates are releiving pressure in that general location, and that occasionally break, causing major earthquakes and surface ruptures. Most earthquakes in this area generaly are not deeper then 30km.\
Generally one cannot feel an earthquake smaller then 3.0 unless extremely still and awake. Their is a small swarm of eq's NW of the island in one of the tectonic stress areas but none have been in the 3+ range. Also Mt. St. Helens in Washington has been seismically active lately producing numerous small eqs in the 3 to 4 range. ANd then theirs Alaska, always active with regular eqs in the 4 to 5 magnitude range weekly with 6, 7, 8 magnitude quakes common.
