Mininova.com is legal grey ground. Technically, there are no copyrighted files being shared. Instead, users download torrent files that contain metadata on where to _find_ the copyrighted files. So, by browsing mininova, you are not breaking any laws. However, as stated above, the moment you use the torrent file to begin downloading a copyrighted file, you've just become a pirate. A good analogy would be a website that details where to buy bombs. No bombs are actually being sold thorugh the website; however, the site helps people acquire said bombs.

There has however, been tremendous legal pressure from the MPAA and RIAA to shut down trackers, regardless of the legality.
