Haven't people time after time shown that relationships are a struggle, even if you find "The One?" Men naturally want to screw, females naturally want to manipulate men, and for what? If a man screws a woman, the woman manipulates him to hang around, and suck the life out of him, their kids will survive. The parents won't be happy, but we weren't bred to be happy, only to pass on healthy offspring (who have the same patterns of screwing and trapping). Why do we try to legitamize things like "love" when really we only have what we have because it was most effective at promoting our genes? Should we just do what our genes tell us, or should we fight back? Of course this wouldn't allow us to pass on our genes, but who cares. Our lives are trying to be about happiness, so in order to get happiness, we must do the opposite of what our genes want, because our genes really "want" our unhappiness

The motives of our genes are not our motives. You confuse two levels of analysis; the proximate and the ultimate. Our genes want us to ultimately reproduce, so they can replicate, but birth control sometimes thwarts the genetic motivation. You can have children in the ultimate sense, at the prompting of genes, but love them dearly in the proximate sense, which is the time YOU live in.

Well that is coming from the point of view of a person that has experienced failed relationships.

Do you think women don't like having sex?
I've been in plenty of relationships where I wanted out and the guy tried to manipulate me to stay.

I've known people married for over 50 years that are very happy and in love - and feel lucky to be together.

Why is your definition of happiness being single and not having children? We don't plan to have kids but we are very happy in our relationship together. When you find someone that turns out to be your best friend, rather than someone who wants to tie the knot or screw right away, you will be happy, and if you decide to have kids, your kids will have happy parents.

You are basing your question on some pretty bad personal experiences I assume, and I'm sorry to let you know that not all relationships are like what you have described.
Genes aren't conscious creatures that try to do anything.
Of course the "purpose" of life is to procreate and continue the success of the species. But then again, how do you explain instances in the animal kingdom where mates stay loyal for life?

your question is based on your past personal experiences in relationships. I do not think you have had many positive relationships based upon your point of view. it is not this simple to try and say men just want sex and women want to manipulate... That is a very narrow minded way to think an dit is not true. Human beings are not just about giving into their own biological urgers. That is superficial and does not last. In a healthy relationship it is a partnership between two people. it is give and take , with love and support from each other. People do not naturally want to be unhappy , I believe we seek balance and strive for love a harmony .

Wow!! Well Said!! I'm excited by the way you summed all that up!! I think you described The Mating Game and Child-raising
(and child support) as well or better than anyone I know. That's the deal. What can I say? Except............you might need some time to find out if you love her and if she really loves you for yourself. Things go sour. And they sure have gone sour for you. You remind me of myself when I was in college. I was looking at the night sky and it was full of bugs so thick I could barely see the stars!! (I was at the lake) That's when I had my Epiphany!!
(they're very popular now but you've already had one) I looked at all those stupid bugs stuck together and thought "Now THERE"S
LOVE!!!!!" I hear ya Kiddo. I hear ya. Good Luck!! @8-)

It is a very rare individual who completely bypasses relationships, avoids the expected challenges and pain of them, and chooses the freedom of porn. Financially, wouldn't a relationship cost a man a lot more than $29.95 a month? How many rib eye steaks could you buy for the price of an engagement ring. Would you rather invest in a high-interest CD, or make your partner upset and spend the money in court instead? Whatever you end up doing, look out for yourself.

I think you make a very strong point, but I also think that people learn to like or tolerate another person and that is what we often mistake as "love", but love in my view can only ever be for a parent and their offspring. Society now leads people to believe that love can exist between to unrealted people of the oposite(or if you prefer same) sex. I think it is just a way that people civilize and cage others.
