Yeah any help would be fantastic, or did anyone else get this problem on XP before?

most probably it is due to software. On of the software you just installed - refused to quit

The easiest way to solve this problem is to push the POWER ON button for about 1 minute, when you want to switch off. I guarantee you that your PC will shut down properly without pulling the power cable

You are still under full software & hardware support with HP.
Call the phone number you see when you right-click "My Computer"... "Properties".

I own a similar model & have never had that nor any other issues.
