I'm 50. You don't give too many details about what might be bothering you, but 52 is not an age at which you should feel that your life is over. I have two aunts both in their 80s who are very active and involved in life. Both travel and one is still tent camping in the mountains. They are very active socially. You have lots of quality years ahead of you.
Get involved as a volunteer, take classes from your local community college or recreation center to learn a new hobby or skill, learn to dance - many dance groups will welcome singles if you don't have someone to go with you, get a make-over at a good salon, think about a new career or starting your own business, etc.
Life will not come knocking on its own. You must look around and see what looks good to you and take steps to achieve a goal. Set some deadlines for yourself.
I'm working on a second master's degree to enable a career change, and it is a financial hassle, but I have too many years left working to sit back and settle for a job that doesn't make me happy.
Don't let ageism get you down. Live life to the fullest.

What is making you feel down? Are you married and in a rut? Are you single and lonely? Empty nest syndrome? Whatever it is the best way to feel good about yourself is to do something for others. What do you enjoy? All hospitals can use volunteers even if its just 1 day or night a week. You can just hold their newborns and rock them. Or help a patient that doesn't have family. Or try a nursing home. there are plenty there that have NO visitors. I used to do Meals on Wheels. That was very rewarding and the old folks loved talking. They are so lonely. How about your local library. Help them with shelving the books. You will see all the new stuff coming out and get first shot at reading them. Volunteer somewhere for just a little while and see how it goes. I'm 53 and still working. My husband just retired. When I retire we plan to volunteer with Red Cross just to keep us busy and useful. Good luck to you. m

Ahhh, the age of empty nest syndrome. For years we define who we are by who needs us. Then one day we wake up and they don't need us anymore. Everything seems to be empty. It has been so long since we lived for us, that we are not even sure where to start.

This can also happen with the break-up of a marriage. Which is also something that happens frequently at the empty nest age.

Personally, I am actually looking forward to this aspect of my life... If I can just get the last two birds out of the nest!!!

I am going to send them off with as much stuff out of the house as I can. Then slowly, one room at a time, I am going to re-do the house so that it suits me.

Then I am going to read that book, paint that picture, go on that trip, finish that cross-stitch, learn a language, learn to play the piano, take up ballroom dancing. I won't have to go from room to room turning off lights and the TV, and picking up socks, and having to take care of the hundred and one other thankless things that I have had to do for kids who are old enough to do for themselves.

I am going to take time to enjoy my friends. Get to know me again. We have spent our lives defining ourselves by everyone else. Now is the time we start to define ourselves by who we are and what we want. That is how we feel alive again.

im only 29 but one year ago i weighed 190 lbs and i was a smoker. i have lost 50 lbs in that year and quit smoking 4 months ago and i feel alive again. im not your age and have no idea if this even relates, but maybe make some kind of lifestyle/health change and that will make you feel better. or maybe something that induces an adrenaline rush like skydiving or roller coaster. or just go to a day spa and treat yourself. hope you feel better girlie!!

Take courses like yoga, work out, take courses at your local college just to widen your knowledge base. Join a club or two, travel, volunteer. Take up a new hobby that you've always been interested in. I'm 48 and I continue my education and have a new career focus. I also stay in shape. Travel is a luxury at this point, but one of my goals. Enhance your life with arts as well, try new things always! There is not enough time left to accomplish everything I want to!!!

Girlfriend, do whatever it takes. You are not dead so you should not feel like it and at 52 you definately shouldn't act like it. Again, do whatever it is you need to do, you are a mature woman who should know what it is that she likes and dislikes, so go for what you like and there is nothing that can stop you. God Bless.

Watch the younger mommies in the park being pulled in 70 different directions at once running after their children.....sigh and realize you dont have to do that anymore! Watch the weary looking women at Home Depot watching their husbands blow $$ on a stupid project that they wont finish and sigh and realize your husband probably knows better.....its time to take time for YOURSELF....enroll in a college course ...or two...join a club you never had the time for....dont expect too much too soon.....slow, gradual, realization....
