they have really. the companies are slowly phasing them out, by flooding the market with TFT and LCD screens. As the technology is still comparatively expensive to CRT, it's still being offered as a cheaper alternative.
Give it a couple more years and there won't be any new CRTs on sale

Perhaps, if you were Rip Van Winkle, this question would be serious.
Hey, CRT devices are fast going away as they are being pushed out by LCDs, Plasmas, etc. The pushing out was not significant because of the high cost of producing the newer technologies in the early years of their invention.
Now that the production processes are more mature after a few years, the new technologies are beginning to take over CRTs very rapidly.
Nobody ever buys CRT monitors anymore, unless they have a specialized use that requires CRT. Otherwise, most everyone buys a LCD for about $100-$200 that functions so much better and so much more reliably.

CRT's are still the cheapest and sometimes people will still go for the cheapest. Where I live it gets over 115 in the summer, yet I know someone who bought a NEW car without an air conditioner (I don't have one but its from 1969, never had one, and only cost me $425)
