Use your tripometer. calculate the amount of miles you can get on a full tank.

simple solution is always the best. fill your tank, drive about fifty to a hundred miles and then refill the tank. divide the gallons used by the miles traveled and get your milage for one gallon (it's an average for your car). multiply the miles times the number of gallons you car holds. that gives you the full distance on a tank of gas. don't go any further than about three quarters that distance before refilling your tank. you'll always stay a quarter full and never run out of gas. if you can go 300 miles on a tank, then refill after about 225 miles. just be sure you watch your milage and if you have a trip milage guage, reset it each time you fill up.

i had a broken guage for a while. i just kept the trip odometer reset every time i filled it up with gas(you should fill the tank all the way) and know how many miles you get from a tank. i would fill up about 50 miles before i knew it was empty just to be safe.

Well, when you fill up with fuel right down the mileage. You can guess how many miles you get to the gallon & if you can multiply, divide the miles per gallons of gas you put in.

Figure out how many miles you typically go on a tank of gas, fill up, and reset your odometer to zero, and keep an eye on the miles you've traveled.

It will sputter and lose power, hard to restart before it is out. Or fill it up and watch the mileage and go as far as 3/4 of a tank on mpg, then refill.

Depends on the yr./make/model/gas tank capacity of your car. I would suggest tracking your mileage via your tripomoter. Every time you fill up (all the way full) hit your Trip. and only drive like 200 miles before filling up.

If you know how many miles you get in a tank, then fill your tank up and reset the odometer. For instance I know I get about 320 miles to my tank. So when I get around 290 miles I would go fill back up.

Keep track of mileage.
Fix your car.
Final option is like with a snowmobile if you see a gas station stop and fill the tank

If you ever kept up with how often you filled up then you should be able to use that as a guide.

Of course I had that happen once, and about two weeks later it started working again. Wiring gremlins.
