I would like some intellegent opinions on this... not immature answers. It is a 145 year old historical flag, yet every time someone sees it they automatically assume that it is a racial thing. Nearly 5,000 items bearing a Confederate flag are up for auction on eBay, including tongue rings, belt buckles, bikinis and a mini-infantry... and the people aren't buying them because "I'm a White supremacist," So why are people so closed minded to automatically assume a person is a bigot if they see them displaying this historical symbol?

I live in Arizona, and we have this little thing called Country Thunder... which is a 4 day festival of country music. Country Thunder is the largest country-music event of the year in one of country's largest markets. About 25,000 people a day from across the country are expected to descend on Canyon Moon Ranch, about four miles east of Florence, AZ for the concert... and this year they have banned anything depicting the confederate flag.

This is why it is found offensive. The Confederate flag is found to be offensive because historically, it was the flag of the Confederate States of America(the Confederacy) and the Confederate states broke away from the United States of America(the Union) for many reasons such as states rights, economical differences etc., however slavery was one of the major reasons. The northern states were outlawing the practice of slavery in their states and the South did not want to give it up because many people in the South felt like slavery was an economic practice rather than cruelty towards humans. For many people, the Confederate flag symbolizes hatred and inhumanity because of why the South broke away from the USA. This is why it is considered offensive, especially to African-Americans.

What do you expect? You know it's the symbol of the Union that supported slavery during the only civil war this country has ever had. Of course, people are going to assume that if you "carry" it, you support slavery by proxy. If I were black, I'd burn it every chance I saw it. Like the Jewish people and the Nazi swastika, they would be just as offended.
You can't change this. Accept it and run to the bank with the money you'll make from the idiots who'll buy the stuff from you.

It is my opinion that the confederate flag symbolizes America's time when we had slaves in the North and South. It reminds me of our shaded past that I'd like to forget. Not forget our brave soldiers by any means, but forget the ignorance that once plagued our country. It offends me because it makes me think of bigotry and racism, and I don't want to think of that. By the way, I'm a white female and this opinion still holds true to me.

at present merely about something is offensive to someone.because the U.S. ultimate court docket has ruled burning the american flag is an expression of loose speech, then persons like you could ought to settle for the reveal of the accomplice flag as a valid expression of loose speech.even as in college,I tacked a three'x5' accomplice flag to my dorm room wall.merely one human being ever complained about it.yet another pupil, whose father were an officer contained in the German military throughout international war 2,displayed a Nazi flag (swastika and all) in his dorm room window.yet another pupil kept a framed image of Adolf Hitler on his wall. One Jewish pupil went berserk about it,notwithstanding the image remained.the point is freedom of expression is extra major than someone being indignant.

Out of all the symbols for Southeastern heritage, why couldn't they use something like this:

These sorts of designs are thousands of years old and are a uniquely Southern thing! Don't use the Confederate flag, as it has negative connotations.

A swastika used to be benign, too, until the Nazis got hold of it. As a symbol of the Antebellum South, it has a lot of emotional stimuli associated with it. I find it offensive because of that: it's still considered to be a symbol of racial superiority and a throw-back to segregation and slavery.
