Cable - 1.5Mbps - 9Mbps down
128Kbps - 384Kbps up
DSL - 1.5Mbps max down
128Kbps - 384Kbps up

Cable because depending on how far away you are from the ADSL access station you might only get half of your DSL speed.

Although DSL has the upside of the number of users in your area using cable not affecting speeds.

For both, the ISP's use from 10 - 25% of your bandwidth for maintenance and repair so you'll never get the max speed.

If you really want blazing speeds try FIOs (fiber optics). I know Verizon has plans so check it out if you want.

cable is lots faster but and this is important - No One - yes No One has need for that much speed unless you are an extreme gamer linked to other computers and gaming 20 to 24 hours a day. DSL brings it up as fast as you can blink a couple times so what do you need faster for??????????????????? DS average price is $25 a month and Cable is $59 to $70 a month. More than twice the cost for something you don't need.

Actually it depends on which brand you get them from. Like Verizion DSL is slower than Optimum Online cable. Trust me i compared them because i have Optimum online cable and my cousin has Verizon DSL. Mines faster than his. Also some cable companies could be slower than DSL having only like 10 mpbs and DSL having like 50 mpbs.

Well it actually depends on your subscription speed. But naturally cable offers a much faster delivery of packets.

If you want a visual benchmarking between your DSL and cable connection you can use this online service: http://www.speedtest.net/

Both DSL and cable generally provide compatible services. If you check with the companies that service your area they can tell you the price/speed they offer. There are no set speeds, they generally range from 1 to 8 mbs.

Good question . . .

The cable company will tell you DSL is slower . . .
The phone company will tell you cable is . . .
DSL is the only one I have tried. I am paying for 1.5 megs per second but the fastest speed I have ever reached is 900 kbs.

It depends on the speed of either. Both of the providers will tell you the download and upload speed for both. In most cases that I have seen though, cable has been faster, but check before you buy.
