Kodak is coming out with an ink jet printer (EASYSHARE All-in-One Printer) in March in which you save "Save up to 50% on everything you print." The ink is so much cheaper, Black for 9.99, Color 14.99, and Black and Color for 21.99. The printers are priced from $149-$299. After my ink ran out of my old dell printer, I definitely going to get an upgrade. If you need any more information, I added a link to the website.

The printer really depends on what it will be used for. Laser printers are more expensive but last longer and print with better quality, usually, except for photos but even some of those are getting better. If you print high volume and do not need color, then definitely laser. Brand doesn't make that much difference. Some people do not like HP but most businesses use HP so if they were so bad they would not be so widely used. They are often more pricey also. You may just want a cheap decent quality color printer. Go to some place like Wal mart and get the one on sale. Replacement cartridges are as expensive as the new printer. Research the cost of print cartridges if you are going to shop around.

There are a lot of good printers in that price range. I had a few HP's and never had very good luck with them. Right now, I have a Lexmark 4 in 1 (print, scan, copy, fax) which I picked up about a year ago for about $130.00. They might even be cheaper now.

The Canon Pixma line is pretty good and offers individual ink tanks. The low end HP's only offer the TriColor tanks. I currently buy HP deskjet 6980's for a Unviersity and they seem to be pretty decent.

I would suggest Epson Printers. They have very good printers and they probably have one of the best picture quality.
