1. crystal meth and methamphetamines are the same thing. It can also be referred to as "Tina".
2. It can be taking either way. The most common is by smoking. After time a lot of users resort to injected to get a better high.
3. This I can not say for sure as I have never used meth. It results in hightened sense of touch and feeling. It always increases the sexual drive of the user and can lead to unsafe sex (this is a major problem affecting the gay community). It causes the user to stay awake for prolonged periods of time.
4. The high last for several hours. Usually the user will repeat every few hours.
5. Meth is exteremly addictive. One of the most addictive narcotics there are. It also has a very low recovery rate. Very few addicts are able to recover. Once they are able to recover they generally are not able to resume "normal" life. They are not able to funciton in society as a average adult would be able to.
5. There is not a set age range of users. It affects people of all age ranges. It is a major problem in the United States.
6. When a user is high the easy way to spot it is by their eyes. They act normal in a group setting. They will not be able to focus one thing. Their pupils will be dialated and their eyes will shift back and forth. You will also notice that they will stay up for prolonged periods of time. They will not eat normally (they will not be hungry). There may be an increased presence of strangers and you will be able to notice they are having unsafe sexual practices and numerous partners.

1) No,crystal meth is meth in a crystal form, much like crack is cocaine in a crystal form.(2)It is smoked, snorted, and injected. If it is snorted it can be painful because it resembles shards of glass. Some people call it "glass".(3)I do not know,I never tried it but it is billed as the "poor mans cocaine" and that is a high I know alot about. It is a euphoria like you feel on top of the world. You spend all night chasing that first high. You never get back there though.(by the way I have been clean for 11 years now.) 4)Typically about 20 minutes or so.(5)Highly addictive!!! (6)Typically 20 to 40 years old.(7)Skinny as a rail, rotten teeth, rotten skin complexion. DO NOT EVER TRY IT OR COCAINE!!!!

I see no one answered on cost. If you buy bags, it can cost about 10 dollars the 1/10th gram, 20 dollars the 1/4 gram, about 80 dollars a gram and a little more than 200 dollars an 1/8th ounce. Of course, these are Bay Area prices of several years ago, before I got recovery and before the Mexicans flooded the market, so it is probably cheaper, in money, not in lives.

Sometimes the side effects will last for the rest of his life. Meth is basically speed mixed with 100's of household chemicals like battery acid and bleach. Give him time and help out the best you can. I am sure he is depressed and probably why he turned to drugs in the first place. He needs to see a doctor/therapist.

Is crystal meth and methamphetamines the same thing? Yes.
In laymen's terms, the 'meth' in methamphetamine vs. simple amphetamine as far as effects go means 'extra' as in extra potent, extra intense, extra addictive. The 'meth' chemically refers to a chemical group added to a base substance that increases these factors. Its effectively an extra chemical group that has the effect of increasing absorption rate into the body as well as the intensity of the effects of said absorption.
Think of it like beans vs. meat - both provide protein, but meat is gram for gram more effective at doing so. Or consider it to be like low octane vs. high octane gasoline - same basic reaction, but the hight octane stuff is more 'pure' and thus more efficient - metaphorically speaking that is.... the 'meth' in methamphetamine is what makes an amphetamine rocket fuel vs. lighter fluid.
Very similar to how normal cocaine and crack are different. Through a chemical process, the base chemical is altered and the result is a more intense and addictive substance.
Other names are:
amp (that's what it does)
blue belly
crank (as in cranks you up a notch or 20)
crystal (its crystaline substance)
la glass (pure meth with no cuts)
speed (as in speeds you up a notch or 20)
white cross
white crunch
How much does it cost? Its cheap to buy because/and its cheap to make. You are talking about simple (though dangerous) chemical processes using cheap and easily available source substances. This is why Iowa is a mecca for instance - lots of farming, lots of methane based fertilizer, lots of people cooking meth at night only to leave the equipment sitting right next to the very methane tank they used to cook it - farms are a resource of opportunity in this case.
How is it taken? I believe smoked more often than anything, but amphetamines can also be taken orally - diet pills are amphetamines for example.
What is the high like? Only way to know subjectively is to try. Objectively is a different question. However, my Uncle who used to live in Iowa - a meth mecca of sorts told me stories of guys who would literally work their job for say three days straight - that's 72 hours with no food or sleep. Irritability and teeth grinding toward the end followed by 2 or more days of simply not existing as far as their job went. I didn't ask for more details as that told me enough for the purpose of what he was talking about at the time.
Is it addictive? As far as physical/mental addiction goes, its one of the big three - heroin, crack and meth. However, as a barometer, nicotine and caffeine are more addictive in that it takes less exposure (gram for gram factoring for potency) for your body to become PHYSICALLY dependent even if the withdrawal from breaking the addiction is less intense.
Cocaine, caffeine and nicotine are almost identical from a chemical perspective. The rush that crack, heroin and meth cause, however, leads to continued use that just about guarantees physical addiction even though it takes more exposure, gram for gram, factoring for potency, to actually produce dependence.
What is the age range for most users? I don't know, but I would guess like any addiction, its not age dependent and age isn't important when dealing with an addict.
(taken from conversations with friends who have tried and or tried, became addicted then broke the habit and my observations before during and after the entire process and my own education on topics such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology and psychology)
What are the signs of a user?
increased alertness
sense of well-being
paranoia
intense high
hallucinations
aggressive behavior
increased heart rate
convulsions
extreme rise in body temperature (as high as 108 degrees which can cause brain damage and death)
increased sweating/body odor
uncontrollable movements (twitching, jerking, etc...)
violent behavior
insomnia
impaired speech
dry, itchy skin
premature aging
rotting teeth
loss of appetite
acne, sores
numbness
disturbed sleep
excessive excitation
excessive talking
panic
anxiousness
nervousness
moodiness and irritability
false sense of confidence and power
delusions of grandeur leading to aggressive behavior
uninterested in friends, sex, or food
aggressive and violent behavior
severe depression
dilated pupils
