Please read all of this Q before answering...
About 5 hours ago I was moving some boxes and junk when I cut my pinky open on what i believe may have been a rusty staple. I immediatly washed it out and squeezed out some of the blood to flush it of bacteria. I put a loose band-aid on it and continued cleaning.
an hour ago I noticed my hand getting very weak, and kinda numb(cold, tingly), now an hour has passed and it has progressed up my arm a little to about mid fore-arm, and my hand and elbow joints are all very stiff.
I dont think I pulled any muschles or anything, it was all very light items. My husband worrys about getting a tetnus shot, i havent ever gotten one to my knowlage. What do you think this could be? i dont feel like going into the hospital and having to stay for days of observations for nothing... I am 35 weeks prego, and everything else seems fine but my left hand and arm. Any advice would be helpful... Thanks.

To all of you whom said "go to hospital asap!!!" Im sorry....I talked to doc, and he said go just to see whats up, so I went and after hours and hours of tests and BS nothing came of it. You cannot get a tetnus shot while pregnant, and you dont feel the syptoms of tetnus for at least 5 days, also infections take at least 16 hours to show any symptom... the nurses laughed at me, and although I went to be "safer than sorry" it didnt help... because I was sitting still for so long I started having braxton hicks, and the nurses wouldnt let me up... so they I guess got stronger and closer together... Now Im on some funky med i didnt need to be on before i went into hospital........... Oh yeah, doc lady said that the numbness i am feeling is just a normal syptom in pregnancy, from fluid retension. I want to thank you all for you answers, but I cant give any of you the best answer, since I cant honestly say what that would have been.

You really should go to the hospital. If you have an infection or tetnus, it can be fatal to your unborn child. They can treat you w/ anti-biotics and give you a tetnus shot if necissary. Please go to the ER immediatley! Your child's future may depend on it.

Could be a pinched nerve. I sometimes get that sensation when I sleep wrong. At your age, heart attacks are extremely uncommon, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you have health insurance that covers chiropractic care, I'd ask around and see who people recommend. A good one will take X rays and tell you why the nerve is pinched, and then go through a treatment program with you.

well I know you said you don't want to go to the hospital, however I think you should just in case you do have an infection. The last thing you need is for an infection to be passed through your blood stream onto the baby. On the other hand it might not be anything. Babies rest on alot of nerves so the tingling sensation may just be caused by that, but for your health and the health of your unborn child I would recommend being checked out by a doctor. Better safe than sorry right.

Girl, it's better to be safe than sorry, you go to the ER as soon as possible, it could be nothing, but it could be a lot of things. It's your life and your baby's life for goodness sake! The symptoms that you described are very weird and I'd take them seriously. Call the nurses line ( usually every OB office has this service even on weekends) talk to them and see what they recommend you to do. Good luck and God bless!

You need to get this checked out!!!! I just looked this up in the book my OBGYN gave me and the effects of tetanus (if that is what this is) is 60% fetal death. However the vaccine is safe in pregnancy!!!! My guess is they will give you the shot as preventative medicine and in the end it is better to be safe than sorry!!! Now call the hopital!!!!!

go to the doctor (hospital) asap. It sound like you might have an infection starting. Don't risk it getting to the fetus.

you need to get to the hospital asap. wouldn't you rather go and find out it's nothing than stay home and "wait it out" only to find that the baby is damaged for life or worse?
