My advice, locate the closest arthouse/indie theater to you. These films are usually much better. The studio is now in its cookie-cutter stage, just as it was in the 60's when filmmakers broke away. This is part of the reason the films from the 70's were so great! Spielberg invented the Summer Blockbuster with Jaws, Lucas invented the Space Opera with Star Wars, Blaxplotation films like Shaft were coming out, as well as films such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Godfather and The Graduate. We'll get there again - it'll just take a little bit.

There is no such thing as movies as an art form in the minds of Hollywood executives. It all boils down to movies that sell theater tickets. Movies are made and directed at specific age demographics. Movies that are directed at teeny boppers are often looked upon as trash by older people.
