Do you use Microsoft's Visual Basic 6 (aka VB classic)? If yes then for what purposes; personal or business? What do you see for VB6 in future?

I use VB-6 for personal use. I am writing some apps just to learn how to develop software. I see that it is still a popular language - despite Microsoft refusing to support it, there is still a lot of support out there. There are e-mail forums, and sites like Planet Source Code (http://www.pscode.com ) and A1VBCode (http://www.a1vbcode.com ) that have code samples.

No, vb6 has been replaced with vb8 (aka vb 2005 express or .net)

2005 express is free from MS site, which allows you to compile, deploy from the web or cdrom any program you create.

Vb6 has no real future in my opinion, because a lot of thing were simplified in vb8, so it would not make sense to do things the old way.

Visual Basic 6.0 allows you to create applications, Visual Studio is an entirely different product. As for a free download, the software is still under Microsoft's copyright which would make it infringement. Just buy a copy, I sure someone sells it.

I have used VB6 on NT4.0 servers which do not support .NET framework. The software was only certified to run on NT4.0 and was too entrenched in the company to be changed right away.

VB6 may have been replaced, but it still has it place on old OS's.....many companies have old apps that still need to be maintained and would take years to change over to .NET (which includes testing) and you will not see VB6 go away in these cases.

VB6 is dead. .NET is the future of Microsoft. All new apps should be created using .NET. Any existing VB6 apps should be ported if significant new features/releases will be done. Otherwise, let them die a natural death.
