i've had my period for about a year now and i was thinking about using tampons because ive heard theyre not as messy as pads. im not sure if i should get regular or heavy, id say i have a pretty heavy flow but ive heard the heavier absorbency the more likely it is to get TSS. so i was thinking regular.. but ive tried regular once before and i leaked through it. should i use heavy or regular with a pad?

I would actually suggest you try using a menstrual cup or a softcup, as well as being far safer, cleaner, hygienic, cheaper, eco-friendly and convenient than tampons they do not leak as tampons do.

A menstrual cup or softcup can be left inside your vagina for up to 12 hours without leaking as it holds up to one ounce of blood and unlike tampons they do not increase your risk of TSS, vaginal infections and other vaginal health problems. Menstrual cups can be worn at night unlike tampons, they can be worn for sports like swimming, and they can be worn before your period is due.

They can be used when you are very light and when you are very heavy so great for us ladies who have heavy periods, it also means you get to avoid the trouble with tampons of having to change the tampon size you use on a daily basis to suit your flow.

Menstrual cups also offer money-back guarantees so that you can try them and get your money back if you do not like them, or softcup offer free samples on their web site.

Trust me, menstrual cups are FAR better than tampons.

You will have to play it by ear for awhile. There is nothing wrong with using super plus tampons as long as your flow needs it. You should change a tampon every four hours to protect yourself from TSS. The type of tampon you use has nothing to do with TSS it is the time you leave it in. A tampon becomes a breeding ground for bacteria if it is left in too long and this is what leads to TSS.

With time and experimenting you will know what size tampon to use based on how heavy or light your flow is. Tampons are less messy than pads and you don't have the worry of the slipping out of place.

Buy on of those multi-size tampon packs. Wear the super absorbent the first day or two, taper off to the regular and then light the last few days. If you need to, you can also wear a pad on heavy days to be safe from accidents. I know some women that will put two super absorbents in at one time on their very heavy flow days. Just remember to take that last tampon out on the last day of your period.

I hate tampons. The rope always acts like a wick. I would say try instead it's a cup and there is no risk of TSS. If your heart is set on tampons go with regular and change them more often you will also want to get a liner in case you get the wick problem or you leak a little.

same as me-lol- i have a heavy flow ,too, so what i do is use regular tams and, depending exactly on how heavy it is, i use also just a pantiliner or a light pad with the tampon and so it is still cleaner bcause it does not always leak, but if it does, i have backup- or if it really REALLY heavy use a super- as long as it is the right absorbancy- never NEVER use a super plus- it is way too much

You can use Super tampons for your heavy days, then switch to regular tampons on your lighter days. That's what I have always done. My flow has always been heavy.

TSS is rare if you responsible with not leaving them in longer than you should.

You'll have to check them when you're wearing the Supers to see how often you should change them. I change mine every 5 or 6 hours.

I never was able to use a tampon without at least a pantyliner, so I never bother anymore. It is safer to go with a pad AND you dont forget to take it out LOL I accidentally put two in once :-S I mustve been like tired or sumthin. from what I know tho...TSS is from the built up bacteria on the tampon infecting your blood stream. (dont know for sure)

Buy a box that has both heavy and regular in it. That way you can use the heavy ones on your heavy days and regular ones on normal days.

You might want to try super or super plus. You have already been exposed to TSS and if you don't have it you should be fine since you have already used a tampon before.
