I am having a problem with two laptops on my wireless network. They each display a "limited or no connectivity" message although the signal strength is always fine. The router is working because I have a desktop that connects directly to it, and the Internet works for it. I have tried releasing and renewing the IP address on the laptops, but it always says it can't renew it. The drivers are all up to date for the Wireless card, so it's not that either. I have tried pinging and powercycling to no avail. In command prompt, it also says that it could not connect to the DHCP server. I do not know how to fix this and have searched for answers but cannot find any. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me before I resort to asking Dell or Comcast for help, as they aren't the nicest people in the world to deal with.

What kind of router is it? At what frequency? How far are the laptops from the router? Have these laptops connected to the router in the past? Do you have a cordless phone in your house and if so at what frequency? How close are your neighbors to your home? Do you know if they have a wireless router in their home at the same frequency? How about a cordless phone at the same frequency?

My first suggestion would be to change the channel in your router settings and attempt to connect to the router wirelessly with the laptop sitting right next to the router. Try to see if you can rule out if it is some type of radio interference that you are encountering.

It is a documented and attested to fact that even with great signal strength and or short distance between router and wifi card, you can experience poor connectivity if you are using 900mhz or 2.4ghz cordless phones or other cordless devices in the area. Intereference varies based on the materials used in the building , shape / layout of the rooms, number of other 'offending' wireless devices and their proximity to you router and or wifi devices. If you use cordless phones try unplugging ALL of them and see if this helps. I had a wireless router that dropped from a range of over 150' to less than 30 when cordless 900mhz phones were installed in the house.

Good luck.

do the following Start>Control Panel>Network Connections you can go here and do the following once in side network connections you can see all the connections you have open there will sometimes be a hazard sign on one of them if the connections is there but not working properly like the problem you are having all you do is right click then select repair and what should happen is a box will appear and refresh all your connections and repair the ip address witch will then let you connect to the internet make sure you do this to all your connections just to make sure you get connectivity from all your open sources hope this helps

There are a couple of soulutions:

1. You should update your software for your router

2. Go to different place until you get a connection to your router

3. Get a wireless ethernet card, that helped me a lot.

if it involves 2 laptops then we cannot say that it is a firewall issue.try checking if you are using the correct wep/network key.contact you the router manufacturer for the wep.

Have you tried unplugging router and re-plugging it - all wires. That always works for me!
