I think I am confused. This is your baby correct? And you like the name "Kate" correct? So why are you even considering other names?
You might as well be considering Fred or Danial, they have one thing in common with Katherine or Kathleen. They aren't Kate either.
Go with what you like. The baby will like it just fine. I selected an odd name for my son. When he was 18 I offered to pay for a legal name change. He told me that it was his name and he had every intention of keeping it. Besides, he liked the idea that when someone yelled his name there was very little likelihood they were calling someone else. He is almost 30 now and has only met one other person with his name. He thinks it's cool and I am happy.
Beat that if you can. A real win win situation.

May I say you have chosen a PERFECT name for your baby. I love all the variations of Kate that I've been! Although it is somewhat common, it is still very elegant, and I am always told how much people love my name. *I* have always loved my name, too! I would suggest giving her the full Katherine (with that spelling). She can choose Kathy, Kate, Kat etc. as she grows. For example, I go by Katherine to most because I'm 36. But growing up people called me Kathy. I sort of shed it along the way and went as Kate to a couple of boyfriends and new people. Anyway, you won't go wrong. It'sa beautiful name if I do say so myself!

I would go with either Katherine or plain Kate, but one thing to look at is how popular of a name both are right now. If one is way more popular than go with the other, makes it less confusing later on down the road when she's in school.

What about Katie ?? It's a cute name . Then again Katherine is a lovely name . It has grace and respect to it.
But for a little girl Katie is a great name..Why not name her Katherine but call her Katie until she gets older ?

Either is a good choice, which sounds better with her middle or last name? I love "Kate". My favorite musician is Kate Bush. She has an appropriate song for you called "Room for the Life Inside" from "The Kick Inside" album.
