Recently I have noticed that there are alot of people get degrees and do nothing with them. They end up working at some resteraunt for five years. I talked to a girl the other day with a business degree that was very stupid when it came to business and knew far less than me and I don't have a business degree at all. Others get degrees like english and have no clue what they want to do as a profession. In todays world it is hard to make a good income with an english degree. Why are so many people doing this? What are your views and opinions on this? Have you noticed this?

Yes, I have noticed that for some time that degrees in certain subjects have limited earning potential. Those who pursue science, medicine, technology and business seem to have the best career and earning potential right now. Those in the arts and humanities have a tougher time earning a living in their field. But the only subjects that are of any interest to me, for instance, are also the only subjects in which I could excel, and they are in arts and humanities.

What they have going for them, I think, is their emphasis on the personal side of humanity, and of fostering critical thought. Not to mention a modicum of grammar and spelling! I think these less than hot fields generally enrich our lives, intellects and spirits. They are at least broadly and indirectly useful in the pursuit of just about any career.

Now, as far as that "business major" goes, it is likely that only business experience brings any business wisdom. But I think that for some, business is a catchall kind of major that attracts people who might normally have skipped college and gone straight into business. Or maybe colleges are not doing a good job of educating!

Yeah, my ex-best friend has a degree in broadcast telecommuncations or something in that nature and she is doing nothing with it. She say she was going to college to finish it up and "just to have it."
And her job is she is doing now has nothing to do with her degree.

My younger sister has a degree in business or computer something, I don't remember. And she is working for a perfume company and she is selling perfume and cosmetics to other companies and training other people to do the same. You don't even have to have a college degree to do this.

My other younger sister kept changing majors cuz she didn't know what she is going to do with her life. She is smart and passed her courses but she kept changing them again and again and again. Finally, my parents told her not to go to school anymore because of that. Now she's just hanging out living with our parents.

For me, I quit college. I was flunking in most of them anyway.

Education is so much more than just a job ticket. Do you have a degree in Literature? You should try it sometime.
