I cannot really think of just one. There are so many showpiece homes on the planet. Almost anything by Franklin Loyd Wright
that has been updated a tad would be wonderful.
However, in today's world, I realize that the house I want would not be all that famous. I would want a house that has certain features, not just decide on one already made. I would want it to reflect me, not someone else.
I would specify an awesome view of ocean and mountains from as many windows as possible. First specification is that no trees would be taken down. The house would be built completely to suit the land upon which it is being built. It can be done. Of course it would be built with it own pure underground water source.
I would want the house to be at least 90% green meaning self- reliant for heat and electricity through use of wind or solar power. If possible, it would be made of logs and rounded stones, all natural materials. The house must be eco-friendly completely. There would be land enough for a few animals or chickens and that would be all I require. It would be spacious, bright, easily warmed or cooled as the weather required. The kitchen would be state of the art with lots of marble or stone. In the courtyard, with a slide-back glass roof, there would be a pond wherein live my collection of beautiful Japanese koi. Although the whole house would sing of peace, this area would be extra special, almost a little jungle.
Every bathroom would be complete. The commode would also be a bidet and the showers big enough for more than one. The big old claw-footed tub would overlook the ocean from it's spot in the rounded bay window. Simplicity of line and no clutter would be the watchword, except for the rooms where one tends to clutter anyhow. The thing I would wish most for though, is that anyone visiting would feel completely at home and free to head straight for the fridge or hop into the outdoor pool.
This would be no hippie log cabin. It would be huge stylish and very modern. And of course, with such a home would come the staff to maintain the grounds and keep up with the housework! I don't know what this has to do with philosophy but dreaming sure is therapeutic!

I would like to build a circular house like a cylinder and put it in the middle of a massive roundabout somewhere. My washing could never be line dried because of the car fumes but at least door-to-door salesmen wouldn't knock on. It would stop alot of unwanted visitors!!!

There is an actual marble house in Newport, R.I. I would love a house made out of marble, only not that big. I'm going to have one in Heaven. There'll be a lot of grayish marble, but I'd like the bathroom floor to have black marble. I don't know about the rest yet.

I like commercial and industrial space converted to residential space. I have often dreamed of making my home in a water tower or an abandoned department store. Grand central station would be nice too. If I were to live inthe resedential building of my choice, it might be Faling water by F.L. Wright, or perhaps one of Tuthills ornate French Gothic creations.

First of all it has to be located on the ocean beach...It's gonna be really difficult, but I want to live in an old barn with no inside walls- and a gigantic loft for me to sleep in with a huge window facing the ocean. I would hang my kitchen chairs on the wall on pegs.
I would live very simply, in the barn, but, amply supplied with books, movies, books, music, did I say books? One entire wall would be devoted to books with a sliding ladder to obtain even the highest one. My bathroom would have horseshoes to hold the toilet tissue and my sink would be a converted old tub....but the spigots would be Kohler, of course. The outside will NOT be painted red but layer upon layer of stain and polyurethane. Geez, I think I went way beyond answering the question ; but, I was on a roll! ;) My answer: an old barn

La Quinta de Bolívar (Bolivar's Manor) in Bogotá. Old colonial Spanish style surrounded by high mountain forest and a bubbling stream, nestled in a cozy corner in the mountains that surround Bogota, wide verandahs, lovely.

There are libraries and schools or neighbors the place an e-mail deal with can be used or given out when critical. The federal government would not need the extra burden.
