Its only scary when you don't know what will happen-- that's true of anything "big" in life.
The doc will give you an injection and some meds to breath in a mask. You get very sleepy and all of a sudden, you cannot keep your eyes open.
Then it seems like 2 seconds later, they are telling you surgery went well and everything is fine.
The anesthesia tends to make me very cold, so I shiver when I am waking up.
Your mum can stay with you for most of it. They will also bring her to you before they "wake" you up, so she will be there for you.
Other than the needle pokes, it doesn't hurt at all.
Best of luck!

Sweetie ... please try not to be scared. All the people who'll be taking care of you know what they're doing and they'll be very concerned to make sure that you're comfortable.
Almost certainly, what will happen is that you'll meet the anaesthesiologist beforehand and he'll introduce himself, ask you a few questions, and ask you if you've got any questions. And I get your mum will be there all the time.
Then they'll give you something to relax you and make you feel sleepy, and then you'll drift off and it won't hurt a bit (I've had six operations so I promise you it feels very safe and floaty and it doesn't hurt at all).
The next thing you'll know is that you'll be in a recovery room with the nurses around you. Your mum may or may not be allowed into the recovery room - the hospital might be concerned about allowing in anyone who isn't a doctor or nurse, because they need to be scrubbed up so much - but then you'll see her soon. You'll probably feel groggy and sleepy for quite a while afterwards, but you'll be looked after all the way.
I hope it all goes well for you. Lots of love.

It just feels like going to sleep but it happens quickly. If you count to 10 when they start to give you the medication, you will not usually make it to three. And it will fell like you are then immediately waking up. Its not like falling asleep when you go to bed and when you wake up you have the feeling that time has passed. When they put you to sleep , even if you were asleep for hours, it will feel like you were hardly asleep at all. If there is pain, it is not from being put to sleep. It you hurt it is usually from the surgery they have done. I'm not sure if your mother can be with you. It all depends on the rules in the hopital where you are going. Also, while you are waiting for your turn for surgery, they usually give you some medication to relax. So, I believe you will be just fine. I am a heathcare provider and have seen more surgery than I could count. And I have had two myself. You will be fine......you really will.

It won't hurt, believe me. I've gone under a couple of times for dental and other surgery and it was painless. You just breath in the air from the mask and fall asleep. When you wake up in Recovery, you'll be on very good meds that will dull the pain of the operation.
I don't think your mum can be present unless you're very young or she has connections with the hospital.

It doesn't hurt! HOW OLD ARE YOU?
If u are older than 10, that is fine! I got general anestesia when I had to go to emergency room! I had an infection under skin so they put chemical in IV tube and I remember than I closed my eyes because the light was too bright and then I woke up and did not remember anything that happened after I closed my eyes. Your throat might hurt after u wake up, though! DONt worry! JUST BE CAREFUL AFTER
general anestesia, your immune system gets weak
take vitamin C and watch out for colds!
GOOD LUCK

Relax!
You won't remember any of it. One minute you will be talking and breathing into the oxygen mask. The next thing you will remember is waking up in the recovery room.
Usually, you aren't put under general anesthesia until you are in the operating room, so, no, usually your mom can't come in with you.
You won't remember feeling any pain usually either.
Good luck with your surgery, and relax.
