I think that two people, with political differences, could be mates forever. Both have to realize that they have to respect each others opinions. It doesn't mean that you have to vote the same way. As a matter of fact, if you are voting one way, and they are voting the other way, you can both save time and not go vote, as you would be canceling each other out anyway :-)
BUT, and there is always a but, once I read your additional details, about him supporting Bush, I have to side with you, as you did the right thing.
I do hope the car was going 60 miles per hour, and you were in the middle of a bridge, along the edge, when you through his sorry a** out !!!!

I don't think that there are any two people who have exactly the same political beliefs. The two party system sometimes makes people think in black and white when politics is about infinite shades of grey. It all depends on just how far apart you are about certain matters.
Every relationship requires some comprimise but sometimes there is too much because you have to maintain your own values and beliefs as well. You can only figure out that balance point by talking to him about the things that you think are really important and leaving some room for him to have his beliefs.

I could date someone with different political beliefs. I mean that's what a free country is all about. Personally I HATE bush and his cronies but I would not alienate or dislike anyone just because they think differently. I have an uncle that worships the republican way :(( I won't say I am a demo crate but again I am opposed to the current regime. Again I will keep my political beliefs on the shelf because I don't won't conflict. Just don't go preaching on me your beliefs I will just say "lets agree to disagree".

It depends on how important politics are to you....
My dad is republican, my mom was democrat...Though politics are an important topic to my dad, they werent as much for my mom. They rarely talked about it.
The same way a sale at Macy's may have been important to my mom and not my dad. They had other people in their lives who shared those interest and between the two of them, they had other similar interest that they could share.
But if you got two people who are real big on politics, with two different points of view, unless they are able to agree to disagree, there may be problems between the two.

You've been reading my mind!
My brother and I got into this same discussion last week.
We're both pretty liberal.
In this day and age, there is no way I could even be friends with a conservative-leaning person, much less date them.
My brother would totally agree.
There's just too much hatred and bigotry on the conservative side, and a friendship just couldn't work (for me, anyway).
We have a staunch conservative older brother whom has completely cut himself and his family off from the rest of us.
That is fine with me. It was his choice.
Sad...but true.

I'm not big into politics, so yeah why not? I mean I hardly watch the news or read the paper, so basically talking to me about anything political would be like talking to a dog. I'd probably just stare at you...and know you're talking to me...but REALLY not know what you're saying.

That is tough. Both the Neocons and us Progressives have our self-satisfied, self-righteous smirking beliefs. And to see that on another's face, especially if you were supposed to be loving each other, would be very difficult. Remember we both love and hate in others what we love and hate in ourselves.
So if that b@stard offended you, kick him to the curb.
Peace (and only dating Progressives who are for nuclear power is tough)
