What is your real question here? Are you asking about a faded vinyl top cover, a convertible top, or a real metal roof that you what to rip off and replace?
Vinyl, moderate price
Convertible top, major price
Steel roof, you can't afford it, junk the car instead

well the best thing to do is go to a junk yard and find an estimate then it would be around 200 dollars and for proper instalation it would cost about 400 dollars

depends........... if it's a tin-top (e.g. boring everyday shopping run-around), you've got to replace the whole bodyshell for safety reasons (as far as I know).............
For a convertible, it all depends on the car......... different cars are different sizes, and thus requires different sized roofs.
As a general guide (since you didn't state the type of car it's for), well, it's alot - see http://www.topsonline.com for further details
