At present the UK is in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). There are 3 time zones in the US and only one in the UK. The time difference at present is -5 hours between the UK and the East coast of the US. This is called Eastern Time (ET). This means that at midnight in the UK it is 19:00 the previous day in New York. The West coast of the US is a further 2 hours behind the East coast, meaning that at midnight in the UK it is 17:00 in San Francisco!

America is a big place with many time zones
Alaska is 9 hours behind us.
United States is from 5 to 8 hours behind us, that is when it is midnight here it is from 7pm to 4pm in the United States

There's a 5 hour differential from New York to London. So when it's midnight in the UK, it's 7pm or 19:00 in the US.

At midnight UK time, New York is 5 hours behind (7pm), mid-US is 6 hours behind (6pm) & LA is 7 hours behind (5pm).

It would be 4pm at the Pacific, 5pm in the Mountain zone, 6pm at the Central Zone and 7pm at the Eastern zone.

Pacific Time is 8 hours later than Standard Time (UTC), so it is 4pm in Seattle and Los Angeles. Eastern Time is 5 hours later than Standard so it is 7pm. I don't know about Alaska and Hawaii.

there are several diff. time zones in U.S.
e.g. Pacific Standard Time is 8hrs behind London
thus, it would be 4pm in Los Angeles
from Hawaii to the us east coast there are 6 separate time
zones without even considering daylight savings time

4pm west coast. But it depends on the time of year as well doesnt it? Cos we put clocks backwards and forwards. I could phone my cousin and ask him the time in five minutes, but I think he wont be happy!
