Only if they work around the house doing dishes, cutting grass, carrying out the garbage, around here shovelling snow from the driveway and sidewalks, etc. If they have to earn their money, then they will be careful of how it is spent. The work may also fight obesity.

Depends on how old the child is and what the amount of chores they have done around the house that week Kids aren't any different than us they have wants and needs to so having them (earn ) some of their own spending money is essential to a child so be realistic in what your asking from them in return for what your willing to give in return

Depends on:

Local spending power.
The age and maturity of the individual child.
The amount of household chores they do.
The portion of their own expenses (clothing, snacks, school fees) and entertainment they are expected to cover out of their own pocket money.

What never does seem to be good is busy, guilty parents giving their child too much money because they know they don't spend enough time with their kids. Kids can see right through that, and they're not impressed.

What's that symbol before the 1?
If you mean $1, then I think it depends on what they do. If they do chores and help out, then maybe five.
