SDTV is 480i, EDTV is 480p, and HDTV is either 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. There isn't much of a difference between SD and EDTV, but your DVDs will look slightly better.

Just having an EDTV won't necessarily make the picture better, but as long as you have component video (red, green, blue) cables for the game console / DVD player you're using, there should be quite an improvement.

Yes, you will see a distinct difference, especially in the larger screen sizes.
