Me and my sister are soon graduating High School, she wants to live with me and I was thinking of living in the city (NYC), so how much does it cost for an apartment there that is not in bad conditions. Thanks in advance.

For a decent (non-doorman) two bedroom apartment in a Manhattan brownstone or walk-up...expect to pay $2,500 and up (per month with gas and electricity included). If you are willing to live in a nice Queens or Brooklyn area, the cost will drop $500.

My best girlfriend just sublet her 1 bedroom apartment in a nice Queen's neighborhood for $1,200 per month. My other girlfriend just leased a $1,800 per month 1 bedroom apartment in a brand new building, but located in an okay Manhattan neighborhood.

As a native New Yorker here is some advice. To live in a good location in NYC for a bedroom is at least 3,000 per month. Unless you and your sister are rich you should be looking in the boroughs of NYC where it is at least 50% cheaper.

This is from www.rent.com

You already know that NYC apartment rentals won't come cheap. The overall cost of living here is 364% compared with the national average, making it just slightly less than California's Silicon Valley, the most expensive area in the nation. Apartments for rent can also be hard to come by in NYC, and it is truly a landlords' market. However, apartment rentals can be found, with average apartments going for $1,600 per month, and utilities costing an average of $189 per month.
