For some unknown reason, I am getting a lot of deep skin cracks on my fingers. I've tried Jergens, Corn Huskers, Zims, Surgeons Secret........but nothing helps! Got any more suggestions?

Winter months can cause cracks on your fingers due to the dry air and if you have your hands in water a lot. I use lubriderm as often as possible. Applying crazy glue to the crack and holding the crack closed for a minute will help the crack heal faster and decreases the pain once closed. This really works for a quick fix. I am a nurse and have been told by Drs that small wounds have also been sealed this way. Try it, you won't regret it.

First of all I would try to find the cause of the problem. It may be something very minor, if you don't want to go to the doctor try putting some antibiotic ointment on the cracks to see if that heals them, and if it does after that process put Vaseline on your hands with a pair of old white socks at night to keep them nice and soft.

The solution is to figure out what is causing these cracks. Commonly it is contact with a chemical which is toxic for your skin or else one to which you are allergic.
If you are not latex sensitive, use protective rubber gloves when handling anything, even when doing dishes.
Notice what substances your hands may be touching throughout the day. Almost anything is a candidate.
Once you figure out the cause, then avoid contact with it.
In the meantime, topical over the counter steroid applied 2 times per day should help. It is called hydrocortisone and is available at all pharmacies.

Use "Aveeno" lotion. Put it on several times a day, rub it in well and let it dry before you do anything else with your hands.

Try using a milder hand soap (some soaps cause drying and irritation) when you have to wash your hands and try wearing thin disposable gloves when doing messy things so you don't have to wash your hands as often. Wash your hands in cold water, not warm or hot which can irritate and dry more.

You can try (before going to bed) turning a pair of socks inside out (so no seams irritate), put a thick coat of Aveeno on your hands and wrists, then pull the socks on over your hands and up to your wrists. Go to sleep, and in the morning you should notice a huge difference.

Good luck!

Someone already said Bag Balm, I agree. It's a very thick vaseline-like stuff, but it works GREAT. Just don't put it on your palms when you're working, it's a little greasy. You can find it at feed stores, it was originally developed for cows that had to stay outside during the winter, it keeps their noses and udders from chapping.

It's happening because the weather is very cold and dry and your skin is drying up (or your washing your hands too much). The key is moisturize! I had very dry, cracked skin on my hands a few years ago and they kept cracking & bleeding. I used A&D ointment (a similar product is Neosporin) on my hands and it not only moisturized but healed the skin.

What about any brand of body butter?
If I were you though, I'd call or stop by your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. They'd be familiar with the ingredients in most salves, lotions, etc. They are very helpful and most really appreciate being asked.
Then hang in there. Spring is coming!

A product called Working Hands. It's either Mcgees, or mc something. Comes in a small white cold cream looking container. You have to put it on at night, and leave it over night. But it really works.

use olive oil or baby oil and sleep with some gloves on to keep your fingers and hands moist and soft. If they are really bad use petroleum jelly and sleep with the cloth gloves on overnight.
