Do you prefer Pink Floyd's earlier or later albums, and should the band have changed its name after Roger Waters left? He appeared to think so (personally, I'm with David Gilmour on this one.)

Together, their work was at their best, and many could agree that after RogerWaters left, a part of Floyd died. And it took on a new sound... just as Pink Floyd took on a new sound after Syd left. The sound changed drastically once Roger took control of the lyrics, and the music matured with David and Rick's brilliant playing and harmonizing vocals. Nick's precise percussion cannot be overlooked either.

I love every era of Pink Floyd. All their music moves me one way or another, and that's what counts.

What do you think about this?

They are two totally different bands. I love them both, but if pressed I'd have to say w/ Roger Waters is the best. I love David Gilmours guitar work. He inspired me to play guitar.

Musically i think that the two are uncomparable as with Roger Waters they made albums that were both musically brilliant & yet the occasional track in any one album would be completely random or off the cuff (so to speak) where as in post Waters albums they've deffinately gone to a more Gilmour sound (About Face anyone?). That said i've always thought Roger Waters came over as a pompus **** and the other three have always been easier to listen to when interviewed. Also Roger always seemed to dissapear up his own **** when describing his music so for that reason alone i would go with post Waters. I still listen to albums from all 3 eras though and wouldnt change anything. Long live the Floyd. p.s. dont you think it's about time they toured again instead of Dave Gilmour doing it all on his own?

Despite growing up in the 70's and 80's I somehow missed Pink Floyd and it's only in the last 5 or 6 years that I've got into their music. All my favourite Floyd songs come from the Roger Waters era. In fact, I think I'll put some on now.

Now, I love the Sy Barrett era very much, and Piper At the Gates of Dawn is one of my favorite albums, period. But let's face it, Pink Floyd never would have become as famous had he continued as their frontman.

But I agree that Gilmour was right in keeping the name. There really wasn't a big change in their sound, even though the Waters-era albums are superior.

I will always respect them as one of the greatest bands of all time, no matter what...but I did like their earlier stuff better.
