Sonny died at Heavenly Ski resort on Monday January 5th 1998, he lost control and hit a tree, apparently so hard it skinned the bark off the tree. He died on contact. Sonny was last seen alive at 1:30p.m. pacific standard time taking the lift with his wife (Mary) and his two children, (9 year old Chesare, and 6 year old daughter Chianna). Apparently Sonny disappeared into a heavily snowed/wooded dip in the slope (between two trails) at the exact same time that Chesare caught an edge and started to fall. Mary and Chianna's attention was distracted by Chesare, that is why no one saw Sonny hit the tree. Sonny's body wasn't found until 6:45 p.m. that evening buried in a foot of snow. During this whole time Cher was in London promoting the grand opening of a fashion store. The news of Sonny's death was delivered by Chasity. Cher/Sonny's daughter. Cher immediately flew back to LA. The funeral was held on January 9th and was broadcast live on CNN.

On January 5, 1998, Bono died of injuries after hitting a tree while skiing on the Nevada side of the Heavenly Ski Resort near South Lake Tahoe, California. He was 62 years old. Bono's death came just days after Michael Kennedy died in a similar accident. Bono's widow, Mary, was elected to fill the remainder Congressional term. She has since been re-elected in her own right. She continues to campaign many of her late husband's causes, including the ongoing fight as how to best save the Salton Sea.

His ex-wife, Cher, gave a tearful eulogy at Bono's funeral, after which the attendees sang the song "The Beat Goes On". His final resting place is Desert Memorial Park in nearby Cathedral City, California, the same cemetery in which Frank Sinatra was laid to rest later that same year. The epitaph on Bono's headstone reads: "And The Beat Goes On"

On a ski resort in Colorado somewhere, back in 1996 or '97. He was on vacation with his new family and he was skiing downhill, and he told his family he'd meet them at the bottom. Along the way he evidently lost control, and collided with a tree, he died instantly according to the coroners report, but his family waited for like an hour or something, because they had no way of knowing what had really happened to him, and when the search party found him everyone was so shocked.

Apples Don't Fall Far From The Tree When I was five I put on mama's high heel shoes And paint my face Dance across the living room At Ruby's place Where the music was always playing Girls were alive While the men were saying Apples don't fall far from the tree Hey honey, come sit on my knee Apples don't fall far from the tree And I remember mama's tears When they said in a few years I'd be something to see At seventeen I had me a diamond And a string of pearls Men said they preferred me To the other girls They took me to the best of places But I could read it on their faces Then when mama died I made up my mind To get on a gray hound Get out of this town And leave it all behind But life goes on A child of three Smiles up at me while she plays A man I loved Has never heard of Ruby's place When he holds her with affection And he uses that old expression
