1 cup lemon scented ammonia
1/2 cup OxyClean powder
2 cups boiling water

Mix together in a big spray bottle and saturate the mattress. Let it sit on its side overnight to dry. If this doesn't kill the smell, then the only alternative is to toss the mattress. Your culprit is the oils and tars in the cigarettes that don't like to break their bonds with fabrics.

On a warm day, take your mattress outside. Take some odor eating spray and spray down the mattress. Let it sit outside in the light breeze with the sun for about 4 hours on each side. When you get it inside, lightly sprinkle with baking soda if you can still smell it at all. I have used this technique many times and it works great. I don't smoke, but I have had to use a mattress from smokers in the past. Good Luck! :)

If this is an old mattress....just toss it...get a new one. Sales on mattresses are on ALL the time. You COULD call a furniture cleaning business and ask them about the situation to have them shampoo and clean it if it's worth it to keep it.....but if you can smell it, it's too far gone and then you have the problem of allergies and asthma. We sleep 1/3 of our lives: invest in a new one for the sake of your own good health.

I don't think you will get the smell out, but for around $20.00 you could buy a complete mattress cover - they are like a big pillow slip for the mattress, made of plastic, and zip up. They keep all the smells and dust mites inside.

I say buy a new mattress. Did you know that mattresses double in their original weight over two or three years due to dust mites in the AVERAGE (clean or not) household??????

I know they're expensive, but bite the bullet and get a new one.

mix oatmeal, back soda, and water in a bowl and spead it on the mattress. Let it dry in the sun, and it will just flake off when its dry and ready to come in.
