You become "clinically" depressed when it's diagnosed by a doctor I think. Go and see your GP, they can also advise on drug therapy if necessary. It's free on the NHS in the UK, so I've no idea about costs.

u will know when u are depressed but if u think u have startings then visit a gp they ask u normal everyday questions like how u feel what u been doin etc then theyll get u to fill out a couple question form you give the answers a number on a scale i think its 1-5 then they will be able to tell u if u r depressed and what is the best treatment it will be pills or counselling or put into a mental health institute i ur bad but u clearly arent that bad or ud be suicidal and alsorts people would notice and u wouldnt be asking this question. To have the diagnosis clinically depressed u need to be diagnosed. the cost of treatment will vary u may get help wiv prescriptions but if u dont then i think prescriptions are now £6.30 or something like that so it dependshowlong ur treatment will be if u even need treatment.. If it is for a long time and lots or medications ask you pharmacist about a yearly prescription certificate then you pay a set preice of say £70 for the year regardless of how many prescriptions u have or what they are for
hope for ur sake u arent as it can be a very tough climb back up the ladder good luck and see ur doc asap if you think u are depressed

If you are having trouble sleeping or you sleep a lot more than usual, if you are unusually tired, if your daily habits have changed, if you have a change in appetite (not eating or eating too much), if you are becoming withdrawn and wanting to avoid being around others, if you are excessively moody/grumpy, if you are feeling a lot of negative thoughts.......these are signs you could be suffering depression.
The sad thing is, seeing a counselor can cost so much that the cost alone would make a person even more depressed! There are counseling services available however, and they range from free, to low-cost based on a sliding fee scale according to your income. You can check into these by contacting your city/county's department of human/social services, or by Googling "psychological referral service" for whatever state or county you live in. A referral service can put you in touch with someone you can afford, who is near where you live.
Above all, if you think you are depressed, then you should seek help because with counseling/medication, you will be surprised at how much better you feel and how you will be able to experience a new lease on life. I have been there. There is no shame in being depressed. Probably everybody has been there at one time or another. Why suffer with it if you don't have to? Best wishes to you!

You will be clinically depressed when you go to the doc and say that you think you are depressed. If you are just sad (it happens sometimes) id say wait a few days if you are sad for more than a week then i would be more worried about it. Meds $$ varies depending on what the problem is.
