For one, you got this from a nonscientific site. I could make a site saying a panda said no to bamboo and only eats squid from the Atlantic Ocean- and it would be just as creditable. A book does not make it any more credible. Second- I bet the lion did not live a full life. Nutritionally it may be possible if the diet is studied just right, but it is not healthy for them.
For instance, look up any studies on tigers or lions and feeding only processed meat- you get dental problems, skull malformations, etc. Eating vegetables would have the exact same effect. A large carnivore is made to crunch bones and tear away chunks of flesh- if they just get a wad of things to eat, they are not going to be growing correctly.
Also- there is the genetic aspect. It takes thousands of years to domesticate an animal and change their nature. If those little chicks ran around, I bet she was watching them closely. She may not have thought of them as a food source, being that she was never fed chicks, but the minute she would taste one- I bet she would know what her natural food is.
