Pittsburgh would most likely move to the western conference Detroit will most likely move to the eastern conference this would give Detroit more original 6 match ups . jackburtonrules did you know that Pittsburgh has lost a couple NHL teams Pittsburgh Pirates 1925 through 1930 and the Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets 1915-25 a pro team when the NHL was still a amateur league.
So I guess that blows your theory. The penguins don’t need the go ahead from the league ultimately the league cannot stop a move even though they think they have the ultimate say. The move would be good for the league from a fanatical stand point if the team moves the name would not go with them hence the league and the team would make a fortune with merchandise with the new team name and logo. $$$ that’s all the league has to think about.

I think that it would involve a massive realignment, and I think Columbus or Detroit would get bumped to the East with KC moving to the West.

There is a proposed plan out there to merge the existing 3 division conferences into 2 division conferences. Of course the latest is that Pittsburgh is close to an arena agreement with the State of PA so this argument might be moot.

I would honestly assume Nashville and Columbus would be sent east, both being more eastern than Detroit. I'd have guessed Detroit, being more original six match ups, but we know how much this current leadership cares for hockey history. The team sent west with them could potentially be Toronto, which would be met with much backlash. Toronto, though, was for a while a western conference team, if I recall correctly. The other option I could think of would go back to calling them the campbell and wales conferences, a decision I have no problem with them doing.

Since KC failed already with an NHL franchise: http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nhl/kansascity/kcscouts.html

It is highly unlikely the Pens would even get the go ahead to move there from the league.

Houston would be a better choice; but since the Pens aren't going anywhere this is an academic question.

If they move to KC, just put the Pens in the South East division same conference, bump the Crapitols to the Atlantic Division same conference.

Bada bing.

If the Pens moved to KC, they would move them to the West and have the eastern most team in the West move east, which would be Columbus. But since Gary Bettman is in charge, he would probably leave the Pens in the east, just because he can.

Denver, Minnesota, and Atlanta all previously failed and were given second chances. There's no reason that KC won't get a second chance.

It's likely that they would leave the Pens in the East. Detroit is in the West even though geographically they should be East, so one more team out of place won't make a difference.

Just forget it.....You question is fictional since the Penguins aren't going anywhere. According to the latest reports, the team is now negotiating with the city and state to get a deal in place for a new arena. All this talk about the Penguins moving was just talk to get concessions from the politicians just like the Steelers and Pirates did. Kansas City....no chance!

easy...nashville moves to the eastern conference. much like the toronto maple leafs did way back in 97...seems such a long time ago since they were considered part of the western conference.
