This will be my first Valentine's Day without my husband, who passed away seven months ago. And Gibran was correct, I knew that I loved him, but never how much until he was gone forever. I only hope he believed that I loved him very much. We should, however express our devotion to our loved ones every day all year, not just pull out all the stops on February 14.

My husband. We've been separated for the last three Valentines. It has been very tough on our relationship, but we are surviving. I recently read this in a Kiran Desai novel and thought it apt:

"...love must surely reside in the gap between desire and fulfillment, in the lack, not the contentment. Love was the ache, the anticipation, the retreat, everything around it but the emotion itself."

taken from "The Inheritance of Loss".

My man :0( We'll be 500 miles away from each other but, I'll see him on the 15th!! Valentine's Day is overrated anyway! Just showing someone you care one day a year is just plain silly
