I worked at my first job for a month and 2 weeks. The manager never paid us on time and I wasn't even being paid minimum wage. I called the ministry of labour and they sent me a bunch of documents in the mail to give to my employer as proof that she wasnt paying me the right amount of money. I left a note on my employers desk explaining why i am giving her these papers and how I felt ( i was being nice) and the next day she called me yelling at me that I no longer work there to bring back my uniform and pick up my cheque because she never wants to see me again. I was appaulled I called back them ministry of labour and said that she can not fire me for asking about my ESA rights. That they will do something about this. Then later on that day i got a phone call back from the ministry of labour and they told me that thier is not record of me ever working there. ?

She's clearly trying to cover herself because you've caught her doing wrong.

Honestly you're better out of the job. But she shouldn't be able to get away with that.

If you have any proof of you working there you should get back to the ministry of labour with that proof- pay checks etc.

That's awful.

Based on "Ministry of Labour" and "ESA" I'm guessing you are in Ontario. I don't really think you will have much recourse in this matter. Because you were working 'under the table' there isn'tgoing to be any record of you working at your company and therefore not much you can do to get your job back. However on a slightly positive note, at least you won't have to pay income tax. At least you can call the ministry back and report her for paying people under the table and violating their rights. I'm sure she has done many other things wrong that you might not even be aware of.
Most importantly - would you actually want your job back? Unlikely. Use this as a life lesson, it only gets harder.
