like a library, or some courses, or some theoretical books about the ideas behind architecture, etc . :)

There are lots of books on Architecture at either bookstore or Library. There are also books about Autocad by the dozen.

When I started I called several places that taught and asked them what book they used. Three said they used Mastering Autocad, so I went out and bought that one, and carefully read it.

I then went to a computer store and sat down and tried it for 5 hours. Discovering what I was unclear about, I reread those chapters before spending another 5 hours in the computer store.

I then went out and got a job, and have been employed for the past twenty years in it.

There are several reasons why that is much more difficult now than then.

#1 Virtually everyone with an architecture degree had no training in autocad and just knowing how to work the program got you a job then. Now virtually everyone has a fair skill.

#2 Draftsmen had been a traditional underclass that did the actual drawings, Today there are very few like myself who do not have Architecture degrees, and despite of my skills, jobs are increasingly scarce without the degree.

#3 Finding a store with an Autocad seat that would let you sit undisturbed for 5 hours at a time was hard then, but near impossible now.

#4 Autocad is a LOT more complicated now than it was then when for practical purposed it really wasn't out of Beta (though they sold it as version 9 when it was really version 0.9)

Architecture in college is very much harder than most degrees usually taking 6 years rather than the usual 4 and even then they expect you to intern for several years at very low pay (pushing us draftsmen out).

But if you are still in high school and want to do it, then buy every book you can on it till you think nothing else. It will take that for the next ten years after high school.

Yeah you need to take courses, but your best bet is to go to a Technical school or College for it.

I've learned AutoCAD and AutoCAD Advanced and Architectual Design, this is something you dont do at the leisure of your own home alone with no guidance.

Half the time you are on the computer though, but you want peopel to be around to assist you.
