I am 9 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I havent been stressed or overworked. I don't smoke, don't do drugs or have not touched alcohol in months...In other words i'm trying to do everything right, yet 3 days ago i was taken to hospital from work with heavy bleeding thinking i had lost my baby. I was bleeding from the cervix but an ultrasound showed the baby alive and well much to my relief!!! The doctors said they don't know what caused it nor do they know how to prevent it from happening again!! Any advice???

If you are trying your best to do the best there is really nothing else you can do. Keep doing what you are doing and Congratulations for caring and not doing drugs or smoking and drinking while pregnant. I hope everything turns out fine!

The first question I would ask you is whether the bleeding started shortly after you had sex?

After intercourse some women may bleed because the cervix is very tender and sensitive. You should discontinue intercourse until you have been seen by your doctor. This is just so that you do not cause any further irritation—having normal sexual intercourse does not cause a miscarriage.

Vaginal bleeding can occur frequently in the first trimester of pregnancy and may not be a sign of problems. But bleeding that occurs in the second and third trimester of pregnancy can often be a sign of a possible complication. Bleeding can be caused by a number of reasons.

Some basic things to know about bleeding are:

If you are bleeding, you should always wear a pad or panty liner so that you can monitor how much you are bleeding and what type of bleeding you are experiencing.

You should never wear a tampon or introduce anything else into the vaginal area such as douche or sexual intercourse if you are currently experiencing bleeding.

If you are also experiencing any of the other symptoms mentioned below in connection with a possible complication, you should contact your health care provider immediately.

Bleeding can be a sign of miscarriage but does NOT mean that miscarriage is imminent. Studies show that anywhere from 20-30% of women experience some degree of bleeding in early pregnancy.

Approximately half of pregnant women who bleed do not have miscarriages.

Since bleeding that occurs in the first half of pregnancy is so common (20-40%), many wonder what the causes are.

Bleeding can occur in early pregnancy due to the following factors, aside from the above mentioned complications:

Implantation bleeding: Implantation bleeding can occur anywhere from 6-12 days after possible conception.

Every woman will experience implantation bleeding differently—some will lightly spot for a few hours, while others may have some light spotting for a couple of days.

Some type of infection in the pelvic cavity or urinary tract

After intercourse some women may bleed because the cervix is very tender and sensitive. You should discontinue intercourse until you have been seen by your doctor. This is just so that you do not cause any further irritation—having normal sexual intercourse does not cause a miscarriage.

If you are really concerned, I would call another OBGYN or talk to someone at Planned Parenthood. They can answer questions for you wihtout making it a big ordeal.
I wish you the best of luck. Check out this site below.

They need to check for cervical cancer. A friend of mine (she was 18 at the time, this was about 8 years ago) Had this problem a couple months after she had a baby. It sounds very similar anyway. The had to "freeze" her cervix to get the bleeding stopped. I'm not sure how they would do this while you are pregnant though. Make sure that they check that your cervix is "competent" too. Also never take the diagnosis (or lack of one) from just one doctor, get a second and thrid oppinion. GOOD LUCK!

When I was about 9 weeks pregnant I had to go to emergency because I was bleeding..I'm 4 months now and everything is fine now..Sometimes you don't really have to have a reason why pregnant women bleed..but my best advice to you is take a easy..you should go on bed rest for a couple days or even weeks..Don't lift anything heavy, just relax..and your work should totally understand..I pray for the best for you and your baby..God bless

the exact same thing happened to me. It could just be that your body is still trying to produce eggs. I know it sounds really weird but this is what my doctor told me. For some reason your body has not registered completely that you are pregnant and It is still trying go through a normal ovulation. I wouldnt worry too much about it. I am due to give birth in 5 days, and the doctors tell me that my baby is completely healthy. hope this eases your mind a little bit.

You can only hope for the best. If the bleeding continues, then your doctor might suggest bed rest.

You should definately get a 2nd opinion. Maybe you should get lots of rest and stay off your feet as much as you can. I'm so glad your baby is ok...Good Luck!

First, I would get a second and even a third opinion. And, then you can make the decision of whether or not to be worried.Ask them if it's normal, sweetie, don't be shy.
