I have a current usa retrofit ballast with square pins. Its rated for 32 watt. bulbs. The only ones I can get are dual daylight from current usa. Can I put a bulb rated for a higher wattage in the ballast & have it work at 32 watts?

My local store has some really pimp looking custom sea life 5000k plant bulbs, but they're in 55 watt model only. That & I have to special order the oddball 32 watt bulbs.

Will it catch on fire or what?

nothing will catch on fire, your bulbs might not fire up, and they'll be really dim if they do start. Just buy a workhorse 5 ballast. They can be found for about 20 bucks. - if the ballast is for two 32 watt bulbs then yes, you can just use one 55 watt bulb, just double the wires to one bulb.

No,it won't catch on fire. But,the bulb mmight not light up or it will, but very dim..the 55 watt bulb needs 55 watts to heat the gas inside the bulb.If it's rated for 120 volts and the lamp is 240 the bulb will explode...In an incadescent lamp,if it's rated for 32 watts and you put in a 55 watt bulb, the lamp will heat up and burn or blow the fuse or circuit breaker..

i say definite it fairly is risk-free. I actual have a minimum of 10 such bulbs in my residing house. see you later as that 2nd selection would not exceed the 60 watts it is going to be fantastic. you're right abut the output not being the comparable. (brightness) I actual have a good number of the a hundred fluorescent bulbs that basically have an output of roughly 20 to 23 watts. the wattage is extra of a means that the twine present day shouldn't exceed. bigger wattage (incandescent) can and has melted those wires. i communicate from journey. 26 watts could be fantastic. after plugging interior the unit and turning it on, all you're able to do is experience the twine the place it fairly is plugged in for warmth. i'm valuable it fairly is o.ok. stable success to ya

Odds are very good that the bulbs won't light or at least won't stay lit. If they managed to stay lit they would produce little light compared to normal and it would most likely though the spectrum off badly.

Why not save yourself the bother & get a new starter unit with a tube to match it?
