I have problems with my period. Sometimes I skip 2 months, sometimes even three. I was pregnant 2 years ago with twins and had a miscarriage, and have been trying ever since, but with my ovulation being so messed up it is really hard. The last time I had my period was December 18th. On Janurary 27th I started bleeding but only for a couple of hours and it was dark brown. I took a pregnancy test about a week ago and it was negative, and my boobs just started hurting a little towards my armpit, and I just need some advice. Why would I only bleed for a couple of hours? My periods usually last about 6 days. I had hormone tests done and one was a little elavated, but everything else was fine. I started having problems with my period after my D&C, and I'm afraid the doctor did something. Although my new obgyn said that she highly doubts I had a botched D&C. She thinks I may have the beginning of PCOS. Anyone have any advice I would really appreciate it.

The few hours of dark blood on Jan. 27th sounds like an anovulatory bleed. Basically it means about 2 weeks before the bleed your body tried to ovulate but couldn't--most likely the follicle turned to a cyst. Your doc is right that this does often indicate pcos. Do you have any of the other symptoms of pcos--weight gain, male-pattern hair growth (chin, mustache, breasts, back) thinning hair on your head?

I suggest you try something to find out if you are ovulating and when. They make ovulation test strips just like pregnancy tests. They also make fertility monitors, so look in to something like that first. If you are ovulating, find out when and then you know when to have sex. I linked a great website with info on PCOS. They also have a PCOS bulletin board, you should check it out if you fit the symptoms. Good luck to you.
