Chavez opposes much of what the United States has done over the years. One way of expressing this opposition is by doing what our government has refused to do for our citizens and that is by providing inexpensive heating oil to our poor. This is a dramatic way of showing others that we are unable or unwilling to care for our own disadvantaged, and puts him on an elevated moral platform. This is simply a diplomatic and political move to lend him credence in the Western Hemisphere. Many of the poor in those areas are Hispanics and the majority of the people South of our borders are at least 50% Native and so his sending oil to Alaskan natives is another way of tweaking our nose. It is a shame that Alaskan natives have to count on him for support, when that state produces so much oil. No I don't sympathize with his stances and much of what he is doing, quite frankly worries me. If this was the full extent of his actions, then I would applaude his generosity, but with his supporting rebelliion in other countries and in general threating the US, I would not be unhappy to see him go.

You write, "what gives Chavez the right to interfere in America! he should stick to his own country". But you understand that America has been interfering in Venezuela? When Chavez stands up against America, he is not standing against you and I, but the international companies that have been raping Latin American natural resources, and then hiding behind our Government. He is a champion of the people, and the victims of exploitation. We wonder why Latin Americans are so poor and all trying to cross the board to the US. Well there are many reasons, but a big reason is because "we" have been messin around down there for too long. Chavez is just saying it like it is.
Isn't it kinda weird that the richest people in the world need a small, "second world" countries hand out to keep its poor people warm? Good for Chavez, and good for the recipients of his charity. Do you think the sick, dying, old, and children should be cold in the winter? Should they be punished for being lazy poor people? American ideology is wack.

merely reading over the responses on the following...that is merely so unhappy that there seems a small portion of persons that're unable to soak up any options which does no longer coincide with what they have been programmed to have self belief. Oh, and my fashionable reaction from "Wendy Wow" the position she suggested, "this is a rustic the position absolutely everyone who dares to imagine and talk in a special way from the authorities,” suggested Machado, “is seen as an enemy." Uh.....does all and multiple ELSE see the astounding irony of HER posting THAT?? isn't that hilarious??? HAR! **************************** i ought to also favor to communicate about that Chavez is prepared to settle for the will of the folk and that i quote, "This shows that our democracy is maturing." while the guy the Rightwingnuts are helping, Musharref, has tabled the structure and been operating below Marshall regulation. yet...he's "ok" because bush SAYS he's "ok." Duh.

I would agree with the statement that he needs to stick to his own country...helping out the impoverished of Venezuela. However, that said....what harm is his oil contributions doing to America? I don't see a promisory note, or a contract with him in exchange for the oil. He could think that he is getting a foothold in America with his philanthropy...but that doesn't mean it is so.
He can oil pimp all he wants...if it is helping Americans, and gives him no rights or power in the US.

The answer to your question is: the same person that gives Americans the right to interfere in other countries.
The question SHOULD be, why aren't AMERICAN companies that have shamelessly continued to raise fuel prices and have continued to report record profits done what Hugo Chavez is doing?
Goes to show how we're failing our own poor, our own elderly, our own disabled and our own retired by allowing our own dictator to allow his cronies to continue to amass huge fortunes at our expense. Maybe that's called a wake up call?
I have NOT heard anyone turning down his oil as someone above has suggested (speculated). By the way, he is hated because he has not allowed American companies to rape the land people, and pollute their lands and waters... but is trying to improve the quality of HIS people; sounds like what OUR President SHOULD be doing!
Just like during the aftermath of Katrina in Louisiana, Canadians and Hugo Chavez' aid reached the people days BEFORE Dubya "realized" what was happening during one of his many vacations while he claimed not being aware of what was happening... because OUR President expected us to believe that he didn't have a telephone, radio or TV... and not one of his personnel did either... and meanwhile, consequent photos and tapes proved him a liar again... like Condoleeza Rice was told about Louisiana while she was playing Tennis, while she was shopping and people yelled at her about Louisiana and she left, and they booed her out of the theater as they yelled at her about Louisiana... and SHE also didn't "know"?
From the start, this administration has been full of "wrong information" "erroneous information" "wrong intelligence" "don't know" and "wasn't informed" plus other similar bumbling excuses; seems we have the original Keystone Kops in the White House being led by the original Rodeo Clown!
Does it really bother you that our poor, our elderly, our retired and our disabled receive help? How about all the monies in aid sent to other nations... why not divert some of that aid to our own needy Americans? WHY does it bother you that Americans get the help they need? Would you rather they spent spent their little money on oil, medicines or food? WHY aren't American companies doing something for our own disabled, retired, elderly and poor Americans or for our vets, at least?
Get real, or go get a life!

Actually, in Venezuela and Latin America, "America" refers to the entire western hemisphere. It was called that long before the US was founded as a nation. Semantics aside, Chavez has the right to sell to any customer who wants to purchase Venezuelan oil. Besides, haven't we meddled in the affairs of Latin America too throughout the last 200 years? I personally don't like his moves to curtail democracy in Venezuela, but he has a right to sell black gold to whosoever he wishes

Agree hes not going to interfer much longer hes sending his 20% contribution to our oil needs to china in the future so dont worry about him so much. Bush says we need to reduce gas use by 20% thus writing him out of the equation. You need to find a new issue.

In principle I might agree with you, but any way to help the poor would be cool to me. I would accept his offer, as long as there are no strings attatched.
