In my previous question i mentioned that I'd looked up php sites and they all seem to be quite boxy and simple, are there nice ones as well?

Everyone has to use the same building blocks - html, css, flash, and graphics - to build a web page, regardless of what software is behind it all. So I would say no, asp doesn't have any advantages in that way.

However, php is much more widely used by amateurs, because it runs on everything, including freeware. Asp requires proprietary Microsoft server software and is used by more corporate sites that own their own servers and are willing to invest in a Microsoft operating environment and not coincidentally have more money to spend on design services.

Whether or not a web page is "pretty" has little to do with the language you use. That's up to you. As for languages, I prefer php instead of asp. I just really hate the way ASP does things, but I come from a C background, so that probably affects my opinions.

PHP and ASP are used for functionality not presentation. Most company websites use ASP. I use PHP because it's easier, free, and preforms basically the same functions as ASP.
