Chav is a mainly derogatory slang term in some parts of the United Kingdom for a subcultural stereotype fixated on fashions such as gold jewellery (often cheap) and 'designer' clothing.

I was actually asked this the other day by an aussie.
In my mind, it would be a person who wears lots of gold jewellery, sports clothing, would generally be badly educated and probably a teengae mother - ha ha!
Fake burberry clothing also springs to mind!!
