The dr gave her fosomax because my moms insurance wont cover actonel anymore. Does changing from actonel 35mg to fosamax 70mg cause bad side effects. Should she pay the extra and stay opn actonel. Thanks a lot for the help

Thank you very much. It worried me more because actonel is 35 mg and fosomax is 70mg. Would that change matter in taking the medication?

The change of medication really should not cause any problems. They both do the same job.

I would not worry at all. They are both the same class of meds and are prescribed for the same reasons. The dosage is just a number... I would not worry about comparing the 35mg to 70 as the meds themselves could have a different chemical make up therefore reflecting a different dosage.

This person is a Dr. for a reason so again I would not worry. If you mom is really that concerned she should do what the Dr. is telling her to do but make him aware of her concerns and as for a follow up in 2 weeks - 1 month.

They are both in the same class of drugs -bisphosphonates

So, while there has been some recent research that indicates Fosomax may have some issues, they are not any different from those surrounding Actonel. Since they both work in the same way, there should be no difference in how they affect her.
